Spontaneous Abstract Expressionism is on the rise in my little creative bubble these days. The state of political affairs in this country in the last three years has taken a toll on my cognitive atmosphere. I feel depressed most days, sometimes rageful, and most of the time like I’m just trying to keep my head above the water. When I sit down to create I feel the need to be completely free of preconceived concepts, blueprints, and focused composition. My brain really just wants to be free of any sort of structure in my creative practice. This little painted paper collage is a result of surrendering to a no-plan ahead agenda. I actually like order and clear trajectories so I’m not really sure about my own reaction to this work. What’s yours? I’m thinking about putting this design on fabric. Then we can all carry a little bit of free expression on our bodies when in need.
